Get your fix

Whatup Reader!

Before I hop into today musing I gotta share that after I sent out last week’s email and mentioned my distaste for the idiom “kill two birds with one stone”, a few of you hit me back and shared that you use the phrase “feed two birds with one stone”.

Y’all truly are the best.

Speaking of the best, today I want to share a question I received in the DMs from one of my very best good homies.

I absolutely love this question and it got me thinking about...my brain.

If you follow me on the ‘Gram, then you might have caught the series of Stories that prompted that question.

Lex’s sink has been practicing its impression of a swamp, and this past weekend I finally had the time to dedicate to doing some investigating and hopefully fixing it.

I was hopeful that it was just a routine P-trap issue, but I wound up having to replace the entire drain, which honestly sounds way more difficult and way more involved than it actually is.

I enjoy chronicling my Bob the Builder adventures, so I took my Story viewers along for the ride from start to successful finish, and somewhere along the way my very good homie sent me that question.

So, why do I choose to do all these things myself?

For starters, like I shared with my Mafia yesterday, because I can.

But as it relates to that question, and what I want to share with you today, is that I choose to do these things because my brain absolutely loves them.

It literally feels good in my brain to puzzle through these projects. Even when a wrench gets thrown in the plan and I have to swap out a drain instead of snaking a pipe, my brain could give Lite Brite a run for its money.

What about you?

What’s that thing, or what are those things, for you?

The type of work that I do in my business, and the way that I support people as part of my job, is very open-ended. Even when I was a practicing physical therapist, there were no truly open and closed cases.

And while I’m not at all complaining about that, I know that that reality makes these home DIY projects feel that much better. Even if it takes me a few weekends, eventually, it’s done.

I think for a lot of us, working out also provides that dopamine hit. Though, as the training age increases and the PRs decide to stop visiting us, the hits can seem a bit harder to come by. (Hyrox’s rise in popularity amongst millennials should surprise no one.)

So, my offer for you today: Go get your fix.

Preferably something legal, but you do you.

Happy Tuesday, Reader.

Maestro out.

Read time: 1 min 35 sec Whatup Reader! Y’all know I stay on Instagram, feeling no kind of way about the amount of time I spend scrolling through my meticulously curated algorithm. Last week I got served a Reel from a beach volleyball creator (can’t find the Reel, can’t remember her name, apologies to the woman whose Reel inspired this email that she will never read), and she said something along the lines of, “Playing more is making you worse.” A bit of a gut-punch, but she’s right. Hear me...

Read time: 2 min 26 sec Whatup Reader! Okay right off the bat I need to correct something from last week's email. That reframe of the two bird idiom was supposed to read: "Feed two birds with one scone". Scone with a C, not stone with a T. That was 100% my bad. Also please let that serve as proof that I don't be using AI to write these emails. Speaking of AI, my other podcast, Prompting Curiosity, just turned a year old last week on August 7! If AI ain't your thing, all good. If you're...
