Whatup Reader!

Action items. That’s what we’re laying out today.

If you follow me on the ‘Gram then you might have seen my post outlining this information, but I wanted to make sure to share it here as well because Instagram clearly isn’t the be all end all.

Whatever you might be feeling right now, I’m going to ask that you turn it into action.

Below, you’ll find four options, pick your favorite and start there.

Option 1: Donate to Minnesota.

There are literally eleventy billion options.

My recommended starting point: https://www.standwithminnesota.com

This is a phenomenal directory that is super well organized and provides an easy way to look up and donate to a charity that resonates with you. (Thanks for sharing this one, Heather!)

Option 2: Call your reps.

This week the Senate will vote on a DHS funding bill that includes $10 billion for ICE.

My recommendation: https://5calls.org

SUPER easy. SUPER helpful. Just set your location, click on the issue that is important to you, and it will give you phone numbers, a word-for-word script, and a bit of background information. It takes less than 5 minutes. If you’re nervous, that’s ok. I made this video that shows exactly what to expect when you call.

Option 3: Get involved with your local Rapid Response Network.

This will require a bit more searching on your part, but I believe in you.

Rapid Response Networks track, verify, and legally document ICE activity while connecting people to immediate legal support.

Use the search engine of choice to look up: “immigration rapid response network volunteer + [city/state]”. You can also search for online trainings which might be a bit more fruitful depending on where you live. (Thanks for sharing this one, Steve and Stephanie!)

Another resource I had a bit more luck with was https://indivisible.org. Go to ‘Get Involved; then scroll down toe ‘Organize Locally’ and click on ‘Find Your Group’. From there you can search by location. (Thanks for sharing this one, Amy!)

Option 4: Have a conversation with someone you’re close to who is outside of your silo.

Echo chambers are real.

Algorithm silos are real.

I’m not saying this conversation will be easy, but it’s worth it to try.

Where you start is 100% up to you. Go with what feels easiest. Lean into what you feel called to do. Just take action.

This is a start, and yes, I will be back to ask you to do MOAR. Participatory democracy unfortunately requires participation. 🤷🏽‍♂️

The world we want to live in requires that we build it. And build it we shall.

One action at a time.

Happy Tuesday, Reader.

Maestro out.

Read time: 7 min 9 sec Whatup Reader! No fun story to set the scene today. I've been deep in the computer finishing up the rebrand of my second podcast and its associated website. MOAR on that next week. BIG stoked. Today we're once again talking about, you guessed it, the website messaging audit! If you've been with me for the past 16 months or so, you know that post-election was a tough time. It forced me to reflect on what I was building, making, and doing, and whether it was what I would...

Read time: 6 min 58 sec Whatup Reader! In full transparency, what follows is an email that I sent out last week to a subset of my full emailing list, more specifically, the subset who had specifically expressed interest in messaging help. I decided to share it with you, my full list, for this Tuesday's Maestro Mail because I firmly believe that if you're excited about something, and you want to use that something to help people, you should talk about that something. So here we are. (Big thank...

Read time: 3 min 5 sec Whatup Reader! Bring it in. (I’ve been watching too much Ted Lasso.) Let’s talk about Instagram for a second, and then about my new messaging services. So, every few years, the question, “Is Instagram dead?” starts circulating and usually coincides with a generalized aversion to posting. No, Instagram is not dead. Yes, there's something to be said about the burnout that comes from extending effort and getting nothing in return. But I’ve watched people be in a one-sided...
