Patio chairs

Whatup Reader!

If you have the opportunity to lean into community, say yes.

If you don't have that opportunity, create it.

This past weekend, Lex and I were fortunate enough to have a completely full dining room table (so full that we actually had to bring in the two chairs that we typically have out on the patio).

Our dinner table was full, our hearts were full, our bellies were full, and needless to say, our schedules were full.

Community involves people, people have different schedules, and those schedules don't always align. Say yes anyway.

When you have the opportunity to lean into community, say yes.

If you don't have that opportunity, create it.

It might not be the best for your schedule, but it is absolutely one of the best things that we can do during this time.

Despite the fact that being on social media can feel like a constant onslaught of negative news, I've had some really great DM conversations over the past few weeks. One of those conversations was with an Insta homie, who asked what I think we should do right now, what the solution is. I'm no Maestrodaumus, but I believe that we need to focus on two things:

  1. Community
  2. Tolerating discomfort

I'll save my thoughts about tolerating discomfort for another email, but as it relates to community, I believe with all my heart that it is the foundation for the solution to everything that is going on right now.

Authoritarian systems fracture horizontal bonds to centralize power. Community rebuilds those bonds.

Worth noting, when we think of the word community, we often think of immediate community, and there's nothing wrong with that. As per always, I believe in starting small. Community starts with the people who feel familiar and expands to the people who share our conditions, our consequences, and our future.

I stay sharing the borrowed quote from my friend Sarah Suddes that β€œWe attract what we are, not what we want.” I am a person of action, and my guess is that a good number of you reading this are as well. The immediacy and constancy of social media can make it feel like we are currently living through a game of hurry up and wait.

So for those of you who hate waiting and are looking for an action item, if you have the opportunity to lean into community, say yes. If you don't have that opportunity, create it.

Happy Tuesday, Reader.

Maestro out.

PS - For those wondering, Rupert was not a fan of having 3 dogs in the house, but he tolerated it like a champ.

Read time: 7 min 9 sec Whatup Reader! No fun story to set the scene today. I've been deep in the computer finishing up the rebrand of my second podcast and its associated website. MOAR on that next week. BIG stoked. Today we're once again talking about, you guessed it, the website messaging audit! If you've been with me for the past 16 months or so, you know that post-election was a tough time. It forced me to reflect on what I was building, making, and doing, and whether it was what I would...

Read time: 6 min 58 sec Whatup Reader! In full transparency, what follows is an email that I sent out last week to a subset of my full emailing list, more specifically, the subset who had specifically expressed interest in messaging help. I decided to share it with you, my full list, for this Tuesday's Maestro Mail because I firmly believe that if you're excited about something, and you want to use that something to help people, you should talk about that something. So here we are. (Big thank...

So, every few years, the question, β€œIs Instagram dead?” starts circulating and usually coincides with a generalized aversion to posting. No, Instagram is not dead. Yes, there's something to be said about the burnout that comes from extending effort and getting nothing in return. But I’ve watched people be in a one-sided...
