Is Instagram dead?

Whatup Reader!

Bring it in. (I’ve been watching too much Ted Lasso.) Let’s talk about Instagram for a second, and then about my new messaging services.

So, every few years, the question, “Is Instagram dead?” starts circulating and usually coincides with a generalized aversion to posting.

No, Instagram is not dead. Yes, there's something to be said about the burnout that comes from extending effort and getting nothing in return. But I’ve watched people be in a one-sided relationship with IG for years, and I honestly don’t believe it to be a strong enough factor in and of itself to account for just how averse folks are feeling towards IG right now.

My take on why so many people, including myself, are feeling so over Instagram? Because showing up on Instagram is asking for sustained levels of compartmentalizing and cognitive dissonance that our nervous systems just aren’t up for.

Nothing that is going on right now is normal. Nothing.

Every time we open our phone, we're bombarded with some of the most horrific images, and stories, and then, in order to run our businesses, in order to provide for ourselves and our families, we're being asked to act like it isn't happening. We're being asked to continue on as if everything's normal and people aren't being killed in the streets, or kidnapped by masked thugs, all while the actual criminals avoid any and all accountability for their crimes.

Hell, you can't even watch an Olympic event without being reminded about how absolutely shitty and horrendous our supposed “leaders” are.

But we're supposed to go and make posts and Reels like it's just another Tuesday.

So, what's the solution?

Well, for starters, if you need to step away and take your efforts offline, do that. My homie Lauren Davis has been sharing some really helpful tips in her Stories for folks looking to disconnect while staying informed…and connected.

Another option: Showing up and sharing all parts of your present reality, aka your business AND your feelings about the current status of the country. To me this is a very viable (and healthy) solution.

A third option, and an opportunity to hawk my wares (because y’all know I've been working hard to pivot into this Messaging Maestro era), is to use this time to get super clear on your messaging.

Hear me out.

My best friend Jill has told me on many occasions, "Contrast creates clarity."

Right now we are in a moment with such contrast, it is becoming crystal clear to folks what actually matters to them, what they don't want, what they don't stand for, what they’re against, what they want changed, and the kind of world they want to live in. (Real talk, some people be leaving the online space because of this clarity, and I’m here for it.)

My suggestion: Let this clarity serve as the backbone for what you want to build, how you want to show up, and who you want to attract.

If this moment is giving you that clarity, and you can see it with ease, I love this for you. Run with it, please!

If you’re finding that you need (or just want) another set of eyes, a sounding board, or someone to help turn that clarity into actual words, hi, it me. 🙋🏽‍♂️

You can smash the Maestro Green button below to head to the full messaging services page with all the deets.

If you never want to post on Instagram again, I don’t blame you.

Whatever you decide, just remember that the world that we want to live in is gonna require that we build it.

If you want some help with whatever you're building, I’m here.

Happy Tuesday, Reader.

Maestro out.

If you’re new here, I send these recap emails out on the last day of each month as a way to share the things that this awesome community has told me they’ve found helpful, and also to let you in on things that are coming your way in the next few months. Read time: 3 min 21 sec Whatup Reader! So I went to the dentist last week. I had scheduled the typical four-month cleaning but I didn't realize that it was also time for the annual X-ray session. I got to the front desk and the receptionist greeted me, handed me the normal sign-in forms, and said, "We’ve got you down for a cleaning today and X-rays." I honestly had no idea that X-rays were going to be a thing, so I asked if we could forego them this time and just get a cleaning. When it comes...

Read time: 4 min 19 sec Whatup Reader! Last week I ordered a hip ab and adduction machine from Temu. My guess is that you just read that sentence and thought the same thing as the majority of folks on Instagram who messaged me after I shared about my online expense: I'm shook. A little backstory: I have loved the hip ab/adductor machine forever. Call it what you want: good girl-bad girl machine, in-out machine, no matter the name, my love for it has remained the same. Unfortunately, said...
