Have you tried this?

Whatup Reader!

I’m using today’s email to share the most recent post from my paid blog, Maestro Musings.

More than as an advertisement (though, clearly, I’d love to have you subscribe), I’m sharing the post because the sentiment has really been ringing true for me lately, and it felt too helpful to keep behind a paywall.

If you’re a Maestro Musings subscriber, I promise an extra entry in this Saturday’s Slow Drip.

Without further ado, last Thursday’s entry:

Don't Make It Worse

“Have you tried not complaining?”

I’ve legit been asking myself this lately, and I think there’s something to it.

It would be foolish of me to think no one else has leaned into this mantra, but timing is everything and at this moment in time, it’s landing for me.

I’ve never been one that found comfort in complaining (no judgment to those who do), and if I’m sick, it’s sleep that makes me feel better, not commiserating with company.

But as of late I’ve found myself mentally uttering that phrase in moments when I’m faced with doing something I don’t want to do:

“Have you tried not complaining?”

I’m gonna have to do the thing anyway. Might as well not make it more unpleasant.

Again, I realize that complaining does in fact make some folks feel better.

(Of note, this is not to be confused with bitching. Bitching makes everyone feels better.)

But the mental complaining that often accompanies more trivial tasks?

We’re taking a break.

We’ll see how long it lasts.

Happy Tuesday, Reader.

Maestro out.

Read time: 2 min 5 sec Whatup Reader! Sometimes I like to sit and think about hypotheticals. I play out made-up scenarios to see how what the butterfly effects might look like. This time, it was about beach volleyball. I spend no less that 6 hours a week playing beach volleyball. I started in early 2020, right before the world shut down, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Lex andI take lessons twice a week. We play pick-up for a few hours every Friday. We’ve taken a last-minute trip to...

Read time: 1 min 53 sec Whatup Reader! First off, BIG thank you for the kind (and enthusiastic) responses to last week’s email. Ya’ll are my people. I wanted to follow up that email with a business lesson that maybe is a non-sequitur, but I don’t even care, because it needs to be said. Ya’ll, if no one has raised their hands and said they want the thing that you want to make, DON’T LAUNCH IT. I’m not saying this because I don’t believe in you, I’m saying this because I believe in math. So...

Read time: 3 min 21 sec Whatup Reader! Sooooo, yesterday the email marketing service formally known as ConverKit sent out an email announcing a significant price increase for all of its users, effective October 15th. People were, understandably and justifiably, pissed. Everyone checking their email on Monday morning. Now, I use ConvertKit. I’ve been a loyal subscriber since 2015. Their platform is actually how you’re receiving this very email. Yes, my price is going up, no, I’m not happy...
