Eleventy billion options

Whatup Reader!

I already know that a review video hates to see me coming.

Yes, today I’m talking about YouTube review videos and not the absolutely INSANE 40th birthday party that I had last week.

Like I wrote to my Mafiosos yesterday: Shit was the dopest ever. No notes.

What I do have notes about is the fact that there are pretty much eleventy billion different ways to do most things, and rarely if ever is there a clear-cut singularly correct approach.

Consider that my 40th birthday revelation if it makes this email flow better for you, though honestly I’ve been believing and preaching this for a long time, and my pre-birthday internet scrolling revealed it to me yet again.

One of my favorite parts about working for myself is that I’m in charge of when I work and how long I focus on a specific task.

Spoiler: I don’t be focusing for a long time.

I’m perfectly fine letting my mind wander when it needs (not to be confused with energy task switching and going from client calls to creative work to admin work) and closing loops that not-so-randomly open up, such as the most recent loop: What would be the best type of LED lighting for my open shelves?

Ya’ll, that single question led me down a rabbit hole of review videos and YouTube tutorials about things like WLED, soldering, and diffuser channels. How long I let my side quests go on depends on the day and what I need to get accomplished, but last week I absolutely watched a 13-minute video on how to avoid 7 common LED strip fails…and I am 100% not going to be running my own LED strips anytime soon.

I think it would be fun to tinker around and DIY my lighting, but companies like GOVEE have created products with functionality that is more than sufficient and takes a fraction of the time to set up.

The important take-away: It all works, what will work best for you is up to you to figure out.

No matter what you’re interested in, whether it’s LED lighting, an email marketing service, building an audience in the online space, a microphone to record your podcast, a camera to capture your content, a guitar to jam on with your friends, or new hockey skates because your 22-year-old pair literally disintegrated, there are eleventy billion different options and approaches, and very rarely, if ever, a clear-cut single correct choice.

Perhaps the actual 40th birthday revelation is that I’m officially sick of seeing folks market one way as the best way, one things as the only thing, one approach as the only approach.

Ya’ll know I absolutely have my preferences and favorites when it comes to pretty much anything and everything, but they’re exactly that, mine.

My point?

Just like you get to decide what LEDs you use, you get to decide what success looks like and what happiness looks like.

Too much of a jump?

Sometimes it be like that.

Hopefully the preceding 500 or so words have demonstrated that everything in life, no matter how big or small, has options.

What will work best for you is up to you to figure out.

Happy Tuesday, Reader.

Maestro out.

PS – Don’t forget to save your spot and this month’s Mafia Dinner. Wednesday, January 29th at 4pm PT. FREE99. No obligation to join the Mafia if you attend the dinner. Come hang out with a family that’s all about options and helping you figure out what works best for you.

We actually live in the one area that has remained in the ‘white zone’ throughout the entirety of this insane disaster, which has been both a godsend and a mindfuck all at once; living life and going about our days while people who live 15 miles from us have lost literally everything. If you follow me on the Instagrams then you’ve seen my...

Read time: 2 min 18 sec Whatup Reader! They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery. I think that imitation is the farthest thing from the original. Who “they” are, I have no idea, but I’m guessing that they’re people who like to copy and imitate others. Now don’t get me wrong, when we’re starting almost any new expressive endeavor (namely thinking of things like sports and anything artistic/creative) we’ll absolutely look to emulate others, especially the greats, as we find our...
